I received my masters degree in Social Work from The Jane Addams college of Social work at university of Illinois-Chicago in 1985. I began practicing as a mental health clinician in a myriad of roles, most significantly as a police social worker for the Evanston police department. I served as a victim advocate and youth outreach worker for 5 years before venturing into a more traditional psychotherapist role, including working with the families of patients who were recovering from closed head injuries. I also held an administrative position at the rehab Institute of Chicago where I was responsible for a sub acute head injury program. After leaving the Rehab Institute I began work at The Family Institute, 30 years ago.
At The Family Institute I practiced as a Psychotherapist and served on the core faculty . I headed up Family Institutes community program geared toward teaching masters level students how to make a wide range of mental health services and therapy available to underserved populations for several years. I also supervised student therapists in the Family Institutes sliding fee scale clinic for several years.
I currently serve on the board of the Phoenix Clinic a not for profit that trains clinicians and provides therapy to clients from underserved communities in Chicago.
